ComputerVault Internet of Things

ComputerVault includes an Internet of Things Edge to Core Management solution consisting of remote controllers, central gateways and edge devices for bidirectional communication of data, voice and video. With the ability to use Commercially Available Off the Shelf, (“COTS”), devices, ComputerVault can make any Linux-based or Windows-based device into a remote controller or edge device providing total flexibility to work with any sensor. ComputerVault client is also supported on Android edge devices. ComputerVault remote controllers are connected to sensors in the field via edge devices and transmit data, voice and video back to central location(s), such as a Network Operations Center, containing gateways.

Gateway Controllers

ComputerVault IoT Gateway Controllers are a cluster of servers facing the internet that receive connections and data from remote controllers, edge devices, mobile devices, distributed clouds, data centers and other gateway controllers. The Gateway Controllers are comprised of virtual networking , storage and compute and can host virtual machines 24x7 like any other public cloud, except that they cost significantly less than other cloud providers such as AWS or Azure. Gateway Controllers also provide central management infrastructure and administrative console for the IoT network devices. Additionally, the Gateway Controllers Clusters also have failover and load balancing capabilities that span multiple networks and nodes.

Remote Controllers aka IoT Gateways and Edge Devices

Typically, remote controllers and edge devices are Linux-based devices deployed in the field, and connected to the actual sensors that are gathering data, e.g., thermometers. Often the remote controllers are intermediary devices at a site between edge devices and the gateway controllers in the NOC. The remote controller will have a ComputerVault IoT software client installed on it so that the controller may communicate with other controllers and one or more gateway devices without writing code. The Edge Devices will have a ComputerVault IoT software client installed on it so that the edge device may communicate with the site-level controllers and one or more gateway devices directly. There may also be applications installed on the all these remote controllers and edge devices for collecting sensor data. The ComputerVault Software Client contains all the functionality required to connect the device in the ComputerVault IoT network.

Centralized Management

The ComputerVault IoT architecture provides for centralized management of all devices. Any device in the network is accessible from the central location which has a complete set of administration tools, for configuring, reconfiguring and analysis of any device.

Any network topology is supported and ComputerVault-enabled devices may be connected in a mesh network to each other. This is useful in areas where there is limited or no Internet connection..

ComputerVault centralized management provides for the analysis and auditing of devices, sensors and network traffic in real time yielding greater insights.

Network and Roaming

ComputerVault IoT can use any telecom circuit to carry data, voice, and video traffic. Both wired and wireless options are available and any desired network topology may be deployed supporting unlimited IoT remote controllers and edge devices. Even in a mesh network, ComputerVault IoT will resolve any routing issues to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted transmission of data, voice and video.

Roaming capabilities are included for mobile applications. The ComputerVault edge devices can hop from one cell tower to another as the controller moves, without the loss of connectivity, such as when it is housed in a vehicle.
